My Teacher Identity

I believe that children are capable, creative, and inquirers.

I believe that teachers are listeners, responsive, and needed

I believe that education should be collaborative, student-driven, and evolving.

"Students show up with incredible strengths and assets. Kids are capable of much more than we think."

-Dr. Gloria Ladson-Billings

I believe children are capable, creative, and inquirers. Each student walks into our classrooms with life experiences that make them who they are. As teachers, it is our job to learn through the eyes of our students. Through play and provocation, educators can provide safe spaces for students to dive deeper into their own learning. It is essential for children to guide the design of lessons as inspired by their creativity and questions.

"Learning and teaching should not stand on opposite banks and just watch the river flow by; instead, they should embark together on a journey down the water. Through an active, reciprocal exchange. teaching can strengthen learning and how to learn."

-Loris Malaguzzi

I believe that teachers are listeners, responsive, and needed. I also believe that the teacher in the classroom is not always the adult, but the relationship between student and teacher involves everyone in the classroom. As an educator, I believe that culturally responsive teaching should be at the forefront of lessons.

“One of the goals of education is not simply to fill students with facts and information but to help them learn how to learn.”

-Zaretta Hammond

I believe education should be collaborative, student-driven, and evolving. As educators, we should be flexible and adaptable to the needs of students. By listening and trusting students as the experts in their learning, education can mold to fit the needs of our students. By collaborating with students and other building faculty/staff, we can be sure to provide students with a student-driven curriculum.
